The Twilight Zone: Lobsters and European Lobsters
Cueva del Delfín
Cueva del Delfín
The statue that gives the site its name is located at the southern exit of the tunnel that runs through Meda Xica, the second largest island of the archipelago. This dive site is famous for its light effects, the “cathedral,” and its tunnels accessible even to less experienced divers, since several tunnels reach depths of up to 18 meters while staying close to large openings. More experienced divers can explore the longer tunnel (65 meters in length), which exits on the northern side of the island at a depth of 25 meters. Marine life inside the tunnels is typical of caves and low-light environments: large conger eels, slipper lobsters, European lobsters, and plenty of forkbeards and meagres.

Keep in mind that the reserve has restrictions on diving, with a maximum number of divers allowed per day. The dive center itself handles the permits.
The Dofí, with its characteristic statue that gives the site its name, is a true icon of diving in the protected area of the Medes Islands.
In fact, there are two dive sites called the Dofí Cave—north and south—connected by a shallow, easily accessible tunnel. This is an ideal spot for a first, totally safe introduction to cave diving, though there are also more challenging tunnels for experienced divers.
